Yearly Exams for Women
April 26, 2021It’s important for OB/GYN patients to continue regular well woman exams from age 21-65.
Although in some instances a woman may not need a yearly pap (cytology) specimen sent, it is nonetheless important to have a yearly breast and pelvic exam to assess for healthy reproductive organs. Yearly exams and mammograms may continue until an individual is 75 or even more if otherwise healthy. Even women post-hysterectomy need a yearly exam. Sometimes people confuse a yearly “pap test” with a pelvic exam. The pap test is a specific test looking for the presence of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). This is only done by a PCP or OB/GYN, never in the Emergency Department.
OB patients are the joy of our practice as we are all blessed and honored to assist our patients through pregnancy, delivery and postpartum.
