LEBANON, Ind. – The Witham Volunteer Organization is proud to announce donations to the Hematology Oncology Center and Cancer Institute at Witham, funding the installation of new, state-of-the-art automatic door openers that will enhance accessibility for patients, visitors and staff.
“We recognize the journey through cancer treatment can be incredibly hard, both physically and emotionally,” said Director of Volunteer Services Amy Mitchell. “Our goal is to help in practical ways that foster our vision to provide exceptional and easy experiences to all we serve. By adding these new automatic door openers, we hope to make the experience a little easier for our patients, their families, and the staff who care for them.”
For patients undergoing treatment for cancer, navigating traditional, heavy manual doors can be a difficult task. The new touchless automatic doors will enhance the patient experience by making it easier to access those departments, reduce the risk of spreading germs, and foster a more welcoming, accessible and comfortable environment.
The initiative was funded through fundraisers the Witham Volunteer Organization hosts throughout the year.
“We could not provide funding for these types of needs at Witham without the continued support of our staff, volunteers and the local community,” Mitchell said. “We are deeply grateful our volunteers recognized this critical, practical need for our patients.”
The Cancer Institute at Witham provides state-of-the-art radiation oncology services while addressing the needs of healing the body, mind and spirit through patient-centered care and education. At the Witham Hematology Oncology Center, patients receive expert, compassionate care for both blood disorders and cancer.
