Help is available.

What to do if you have been assaulted

  • Make sure you are safe.
  • Call 911 or someone you can trust.
  • Know that you are not alone.
  • Contact or go to a Center of Hope - even if you do not wish to report the assault to law enforcement. We can help!
  • Time is essential. The chances of collecting evidence decrease over time. Do not delay seeking treatment, even if you are undecided on what to do.
  • Avoid changing clothes or taking a shower before seeking treatment.
  • Avoid eating, drinking, or smoking before seeking treatment.
  • If you must empty your bladder, it is best if you do not wipe afterward.
  • If you wish, the Center of Hope can contact Law Enforcement for you.
  • YOU are in control. Once you present for treatment, you may change your mind and stop at any point.

The Witham Center of Hope was created in Boone County through the generosity of the Witham Health Services Foundation and donors. Continuing contributions support the purchase of supplies to make victims more comfortable during their stay.
