Over time, the dynamic wrinkles that form when you make different facial expressions can become static wrinkles that remain on your face even while at rest. To smooth these wrinkles and even prevent them from becoming deeply set, BOTOX® Cosmetic and Xeomin® injections temporarily inhibit the muscle contractions that are responsible for lines and wrinkles, resulting in a younger, more energized appearance.

About Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin

If crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines or frown lines leave you frustrated with your appearance, BOTOX® and/or Xeomin® may be right for you. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Xeomin® work by relaxing the facial muscles that can lead to the fine lines and wrinkles in your upper face, including horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet and brow lines. These injection treatments typically take less than 20 minutes to perform, which is why they’re sometimes referred to as “lunchtime procedures,” as they can very easily fit into your lunch break. Additionally, there’s very little downtime associated with BOTOX® and Xeomin®, so you can resume your normal activities immediately afterwards.

During your consultation, you can discuss your specific problem areas and goals for your final results with one of our skilled cosmetic surgeons, who can provide a detailed outline of your procedure, as well as help you decide which product might be best for you.

Your procedure: Although BOTOX® and Xeomin® work in the same way, by temporarily hindering the muscle movements that lead to facial wrinkles, there are a few differences between the two injectables. Working closely with our team of experienced professionals is often the best way to decide which product can deliver the results you’re looking for.

Because the two products are so similar, your personal preference and the professional advice of our cosmetic surgeons can play a major role in determining which one you choose.

Recovery and results: Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Xeomin® are temporary solutions, in that their effects will gradually fade over the next 3 to 4 months and will require additional treatments in order to maintain the same great results. But because these procedures are relatively quick and typically require little or no downtime, many people find that it’s easy to schedule regular appointments despite a busy schedule.

Following either treatment, you may notice some mild swelling, redness or bruising around the injection sites, but these symptoms should diminish on their own over the next few days, revealing your final results. For BOTOX®, most people see their smooth results within 7 to 10 days, whereas Xeomin® results may appear within 4 to 7 days.

Collagen is a naturally-occurring protein in the body, providing structure and firmness to the skin. When collagen begins to break down and production diminishes as part of the aging process, lines and wrinkles can start to show up and a loss of facial volume can create a tired, sunken-in appearance. Injectable fillers are a nonsurgical solution to this common cosmetic concern. They work by mimicking your body’s natural collagen production, thus filling in fine lines and wrinkles and subtly plumping your cheeks for a younger, rejuvenated look.

About Injectable Fillers

If you’d like to minimize wrinkles and other signs of facial aging and enhance your appearance using nonsurgical treatments, dermal fillers may be right for you. In a brief “lunchtime” procedure, facial fillers can smooth your skin, improve texture and restore volume with no downtime.

During your initial consultation, one of our skilled cosmetic surgeons can assess your unique situation and help you decide which product might best suit your needs. For men and women who desire longer-term results, the Silhouette InstaLift™ can offer a higher level of correction without the downtime associated with traditional facelift surgery.

Your procedure: The procedure to administer various types of facial fillers can be very similar, though each treatment option utilizes a slightly different formula designed to target specific concerns. We offer a variety of injectable filler options:

JUVÉDERM® contains hyaluronic acid, which is naturally-occurring in your body and is responsible for skin repair. JUVÉDERM® can fill in fine lines and wrinkles that commonly occur in the lower face, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines and other wrinkles around the cheeks, nose, mouth and along the jawline to restore your skin for a smooth, firm texture. In some cases, JUVÉDERM® may also be effective in treating lines in the forehead and upper face.

RADIESSE®, the first calcium hydroxylapatite injectable, acts as a supplement for your skin’s collagen. When your collagen supply becomes depleted, facial wrinkles form and many people experience significant volume loss. RADIESSE® can help combat these signs of aging by restoring cheek volume and rejuvenating the mid-face. This dermal filler is often used to treat the nasolabial folds that occur around the mouth.

Restylane® is made up of a hyaluronic acid formula, similar to that of JUVÉDERM®, and works by filling in fine lines and adding volume to the lips. Restylane® can be an excellent facial filler for wrinkles that appear on your upper lip, as well as the deeper wrinkles that occur in the nasolabial folds and at the corners of your mouth.

Sculptra™ injections can be an effective solution to restore the youthful fullness of your face. Sculptra™ is composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic biocompatible and biodegradable product, and works differently than other injectable fillers. Sculptra™ stimulates new collagen growth to bring volume back to the face, and may be used to fill in nasolabial folds, smile lines around your mouth and chin wrinkles.

Recovery and results: Because injectable fillers are typically a “lunchtime procedure” that can often be performed in 20 minutes or less, there’s no recovery time associated with these treatments. Some mild swelling, redness or bruising around the injection sites are common side effects, but these symptoms should subside over the next few days.

Based on which facial filler you choose, your results may last anywhere from 4 months to more than 2 years. Depending on the dermal filler that’s best-suited to your needs, your cosmetic surgeon may recommend a series of injections spaced out over several months for optimal results.

Although injectable fillers offer temporary results, they can be long-lasting and can be easily maintained for an energized, youthful appearance.

The delicate skin of your face can be one of the first places where signs of aging and sun damage begin to show in wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. These changes may add years to your face and give you a tired look. A chemical peel to shed damaged skin cells can help restore a younger, rejuvenated appearance.

About Chemical Peels

If you’re interested in a minimally invasive way to revitalize the appearance of your skin and improve fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, freckles, shallow acne scars, sun-damaged skin, age spots, rough skin, scaly patches and other scars, a chemical peel may be right for you. By evenly removing the damaged outer layer to stimulate the growth of new skin underneath, a chemical face peel smooths and rejuvenates facial skin. Chemical peels can also be performed on the neck, chest, hands, arms and legs.

During your initial consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will talk with you about your goals and discuss what level of improvement you can expect from a chemical peel and if a chemical peel may be right for you. If you are concerned about loose or sagging facial skin or the appearance of deep lines on your face, your cosmetic surgeon may recommend a face lift or injectable fillers to help you get the refreshed look you’re after.

Your procedure: Your cosmetic surgeon will recommend either a light, medium or deep chemical face peel based on your skin type and desired results.

A superficial chemical peel removes only the outer layer of skin for a more subtle change that can be enhanced with additional treatments. A light or superficial chemical peel can be an effective treatment for dry skin, acne, fine wrinkles and uneven pigmentation.

A medium chemical peel creates a smoother look and feel by removing the outer layer and the first part of the middle layer of skin and reducing the appearance of deeper wrinkles and acne scars.

A deep chemical peel can produce the most renewed look by removing deeper layers of skin to treat scars, sun damage, pre-cancerous growths and blotchy spots.

Our cosmetic surgeons use glycolic acid, beta lift, Jessner, trichloroacetic acid or carbolic acid alone or in mixtures depending on the type of peel. Most chemical peels are performed as outpatient procedures at our office or in a surgical suite.

Each chemical peel follows the same steps. Your face will be thoroughly cleaned, then a chemical solution will be brushed onto your face to separate and peel the outer layers of your skin. You may feel a burning or stinging sensation during your chemical peel. Your cosmetic surgeon may apply a local anesthetic for deep chemical peels. After the appropriate amount of time has passed, the chemicals are neutralized.

Recovery and results: Immediately after a chemical face peel, your skin may look like it has a mild to more severe sunburn, which will fade to a pink color over the next several weeks.

A light peel generally results in some redness and possibly scaling that lasts for a few days. The recovery period is typically longer for deeper peels. Medium and deep peels may initially cause swelling and blisters that break open and form a brown crust, then your skin may peel for up to 2 weeks.

During the first day or two, your cosmetic surgeon may have you wear a dressing that covers some or all of the treated skin. Your post-care instructions may also include applying an ointment or cream to help your skin remain moist and following a home skin care plan to ensure proper healing. You should be able use cosmetics 2 weeks after your procedure.

As your skin heals, the new skin should be tighter, smoother and slightly lighter. Throughout your recovery, you should avoid any sun exposure because it can damage your new skin, which may be very sensitive and susceptible to injury. Always apply a sunscreen that is at least 15 SPF and blocks UVA and UVB rays about 20 minutes before you go outside.

Acne, aging and overexposure to the sun are just a few of the many reasons why your skin may no longer look its best. Laser skin resurfacing treatments can minimize the effects of the sun and signs of aging while rejuvenating your complexion, resulting in smoother, healthier-looking skin without the need for surgery.

About Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing can be an effective way to diminish obvious imperfections in the skin, including those resulting from sun exposure. Carefully targeted laser energy removes the damaged layers of outer skin and stimulates collagen and new skin cell production. Collagen production reduces as we age, which leads to some of the common side effects associated with the aging process, including fine lines, sagging and wrinkles.

The best laser resurfacing results are typically seen in those people concerned with freckles, age spots and uneven skin tone or texture. While some wrinkles may also be improved with the help of laser skin resurfacing, deeper lines may be better addressed with injectable fillers. Often, laser skin resurfacing is combined with other treatments for more comprehensive skin rejuvenation results.

Your procedure: Laser resurfacing can be performed on the face, hands, décolletage or other areas of concern.

While the dead skin cells on the skin’s surface are removed, the application of laser energy simultaneously heats the underlying layers of the skin. This stimulates new collagen production, resulting in younger and smoother skin with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles reduced or eliminated. Laser skin resurfacing can also help fade freckles and age spots.

At your consultation, the physician will discuss what areas of your skin could best benefit from laser treatments. Skin of the face, neck, chest and hands can be treated. Often, one skin treatment will provide satisfying results; however, a second treatment can be performed several months after the first.

MiXto SX® Fractional Laser Skin Treatment uses the MiXto SX® Micro Fractional CO2 Laser as a nonsurgical, revolutionary treatment for facial rejuvenation that treats acne scarring as well as signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and uneven pigmentation.

The MiXto SX® softens fine lines and wrinkles, removes age and sun spots, tightens the skin and stimulates collagen production. Unlike conventional CO2 laser skin resurfacing, the MiXto SX® delivers a therapeutic matrix of tiny laser beams that treat a fraction of the skin’s surface, allowing for fast healing and a shorter recovery.

The MiXto SX® treatment is performed in the office as an outpatient procedure using oral sedation as well as local anesthesia. Depending on the number of areas to be treated, the procedure may take approximately 25 minutes.

Recovery and results: After laser skin resurfacing treatment, you may expect a slight burning sensation similar to a sunburn. Over-the-counter medication can help control discomfort, as can applying ice to the treated area and elevating your head while sleeping.

The treated skin will initially be pink and the peeling process will begin about 3 days after the procedure. You will receive detailed instructions on how to care for your newly treated skin, including using certain skincare products and avoiding sun exposure.

Complete healing typically takes 10 to 21 days. The redness should completely fade by 2 to 6 months after your laser treatment. It’s very important to protect your skin from sun exposure throughout your recovery, and prioritizing sun protection in the future can ensure the longest-lasting results.

A double chin can be a source of frustration for many men and women. Excess fat can gather in the submental area, which is located between your neck and chin, and can be difficult or even impossible to address through traditional fat removal methods like diet and exercise. For those who have tried to get rid of a double chin with no success, Kybella™ injections can help to remove these exercise-resistant fat cells, resulting in a slimmer, better-defined jawline and chin.

About Kybella™

Kybella™ is a nonsurgical injectable treatment option that can help men and women get rid of the appearance of a double chin. Kybella™ works to remove a double chin by dissolving the small pockets of stubborn fat beneath your chin, improving the contours of your face.

The best candidates for Kybella™ will have excess submental fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise, will be in good overall health, have good skin and muscle tone and should require minimal tissue tightening in the area beneath the chin. During your initial consultation with one of our skilled cosmetic surgeons, you can discuss your unique goals and expectations for your results in order to determine if you’re a good candidate for the procedure. For men and women interested in a surgical procedure to correct their double chin, chin liposuction may be a preferred option.

Your procedure: Kybella™ works by injecting a form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in our bodies that helps to metabolize fat cells, into the area between your chin and neck. These injections then melt away the persistent fat cells, which your body will naturally expel, leaving you with the slimmer, well-defined contours and profile that you desire.

Although many men and women notice significant improvements in the appearance of their double chin after just one treatment, multiple sessions may be necessary in order to better remove a double chin. Most people receive 2 to 4 Kybella™ injections before they notice their final results, though the number of sessions you may need can vary.

Recovery and results: Administering your Kybella™ injections will generally take less than 20 minutes, and because it’s a nonsurgical procedure, most people can expect to return to their normal activities immediately afterward. Although some redness, swelling or bruising may occur, these side effects are common and should diminish over the next days and weeks, revealing your smooth, contoured results.

Because Kybella™ injections actually remove fat cells from the double chin area, your results can be very long-lasting. It is, however, important to maintain healthy living habits to ensure that you can enjoy your excellent results for years to come, as new fatty deposits can occur in the same area due to significant weight fluctuations.

The appearance of spider veins or varicose veins, which occur when tiny blood vessels and capillaries become dilated, is a common cosmetic concern for many men and women. Spider veins are small, whereas varicose veins are large and can even be painful or uncomfortable. Whether for aesthetic or medical reasons, spider and varicose vein treatment is a common procedure that can yield excellent results.

About Vein Treatment

Unwanted spider and varicose veins can be caused by a number of factors, including genetics, heavy lifting or your body’s natural aging process. These types of veins may be a cosmetic nuisance, but they can also cause swelling, discomfort or a feeling of heaviness in your legs. If you’re troubled by unsightly or protruding veins, non surgical laser vein treatment may help to significantly improve or even eliminate the appearance of these veins and their symptoms. In more severe cases, vein surgery may be required for optimum results.

You will be able to discuss your individual situation with one of our experienced cosmetic surgeons during your initial consultation, where you can also discuss your various vein treatment options and which might be the right one for you.

Your procedure: The most common vein treatment procedure is a process called sclerotherapy. This is a nonsurgical procedure that involves injecting a solution into the affected veins, which causes them to eventually collapse and disappear. Most people benefit from multiple sclerotherapy treatments, which generally take 15 to 20 minutes to perform, although the exact number of sessions required will depend on your unique situation.

Laser treatments may be another nonsurgical option that can help reduce the appearance of spider veins. Laser therapy can treat the small to mid-sized veins and may be particularly effective for veins that occur in the face. A handheld laser device passes over the treatment area and the laser gently penetrates the skin to target the veins. As the veins receive the laser’s light, they dissolve and are absorbed by the body.

Recovery and results: Because both sclerotherapy and laser therapy are both non surgical, minimally invasive procedures, you should be able to return to your normal activities directly after vein treatment, although vigorous exercise is not recommended during the first 24 hours following your procedure. Compression stockings or socks can also be helpful after treatment to help to keep pressure off of your veins.

For men and women that have laser therapy, avoiding sun exposure after your session is important. There may be some initial redness immediately following the laser treatment which should dissipate over the subsequent days and weeks.

Within the following weeks and months, you should begin to see your final results in the form of smoother, uniform skin that is free of spider and varicose veins.
