With gratitude Dr. Michael Wagner has accepted the Witham Health Services Laboratory Director of Toxicology position. He has held senior positions in government, academic, clinical and private laboratories. Locally he has served the citizens of Indiana as the State Toxicologist and as a clinical professor in the Departments of Pharmacology and Toxicology and Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Indiana School of Medicine – Indianapolis. Dr. Wagner will focus on laboratory development in three main areas: Forensic service, Clinical service and Technical advancement/implementation.
As a Fellow with the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (F-ABFT), Dr. Wagner will use his forensic experience to expand testing services for disciplines in drug compliance, postmortem and performance behavior impairment detection. As an award winning member of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC), he will look for opportunities to support clinical services provided by Witham Health Services through Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) assay developments. Technical Development will focus on increasing drug testing capabilities by implementing advanced hybrid technologies such as Liquid Chromatography - Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LCMSMS) to provide a state of the art surveillance in pain management, addictionology treatment/monitoring testing, synthetic drug detection (Fentanyl Analogues, Synthetic Cannabinoids and Bath Salts), and therapeutic biomarkers for the treatment of addiction, depression and immunosuppression. Finally, as the laboratory builds on the foundation of supportive laboratory science, the Witham Health Services Toxicology Laboratory will look to introduce pharmacogenetics testing assisting in patient drug metabolism interpretation and identifying abnormalities leading to poor health outcomes.
Witham Health Services is excited to have Dr. Wagner join our team!
